  • The Hepworth Wakefield is a museum in Northern England, dedicated to celebrating the legacy of Barbara Hepworth. This branding concept seeks to introduce a fluidity of line in the museum’s forms and visuals, aligning more closely with Hepworth's artistic style.

  • To reference Barbara Hepworth's work in the logo design, I focused on her idea that sculpture is not only about exterior form but also about the interior space. In this logo, the letterforms intersect with a flat yet curved shape, emphasizing the importance of the interior focus.

  • As part of my thesis research, I used AI to create a series of letterforms crafted from pebbles, a medium that a young Barbara Hepworth studied as a child on the beaches of England.

Artificial Typography

These letterforms were created using prompts generated by my Custom GPT, Archivist. The prompt focuses on elements of Barbara Hepworths work like the Interplay between light and shadow.

Prompt:
Create an alphabetical letterform 'D' inspired by the tactile quality and silhouette of a smooth, irregular-shaped pebble. The letter should embody the essence of natural erosion, with soft, rounded curves that mimic the gentle contours of a pebble worn by time and elements. The surface should have a matte finish, reflecting the diffuse light as if seen under the soft glow of the sun. Shadows should be minimal, highlighting the form's volume without sharp contrasts, keeping the graphic quality clean and organic. The composition should be balanced, evoking a sense of calm and stability, just as a pebble rests securely on the ground. The background should be a subtle gradient, suggesting a natural environment where such a pebble might be found.
